First Light: New Works Showcase
Four newly commissioned short works by Central Florida queer artists, across performance, dance and spoken word.
First Light is the program that establishes CFQAI as a presenter in its own right, on a neutral stage, in its first quarter. Four artists are commissioned to make short new work and premiere it on one evening.
Artists are selected by open call and reviewed by a panel that includes at least one person who is not a CFQAI director. Every selected artist is paid a flat commission fee plus a performance fee under a written agreement.
Venue targets under discussion include Renaissance Theatre Company, Lowndes Shakespeare Center, Timucua Arts Foundation and The Abbey.
